Mastering the Art of Avocado Extraction

Updated: Oct 18, 2023

Avocado lovers, rejoice! Whether you're a seasoned avocado enthusiast or just dipping your toes into the world of this creamy, yummy, green delight, knowing how to extract the fruit efficiently is essential. After all, there's nothing worse than mangling a perfectly ripe avocado in your quest to get to that delicious flesh. Fear not, I've got you covered with the best way to get the fruit out of an avocado with my favorite tool - the 3 and 1 Avocado Slicer.

It starts with choosing the Right Avocado

Look for avocados that are slightly soft when you give them a gentle squeeze but not mushy. The skin should be free of major blemishes or overly soft spots. Remember, a little firmness is okay; it'll ripen beautifully on your countertop in a day or two.

Slice the Avocado lengthwise

Cut the Avocado

Hold the avocado lengthwise and make a gentle, even cut all the way around the fruit with your 3 and 1 tool. Be cautious not to cut too deep; you want to slice through the skin and flesh without hitting the pit.

Twist and Open

Once you've cut all the way around, gently twist the two halves in opposite directions to separate them. The pit should stay lodged in one of the halves.

Remove the Pit

Now comes the tricky part - UNLESS you have this tool! I have cut myself more times than I like to admit, removing the pit. With the 3 and 1 tool, it is easy to do this safely by striking the pit with the blades. The pit will lodge into the tool, and the round hole on the opposite side of the blades allows you to easily push it out.

Slice & Scoop the Flesh

With the pit removed, you can now slice and scoop out the avocado flesh with the other end of the tool. The slicer lifts fruit from the skin in seven perfect pieces, If the avocado is ripe, this will be a breeze.

Enjoy Your Avocado

Now that you've successfully extracted the creamy, yummy, green goodness, it's time to enjoy your avocado. Whether you're making guacamole, slicing it onto toast, or adding it to a salad, you've got the perfect avocado ready to elevate your dish.
